Breaking News: Chilean 8.8 Magnitude Earthquake

The Salvation Army in Chili IMMEDIATELY deployed support and international financial assistance has already begun transferring. Lt. Colonel F. Bradford Bailey, Chief Secretary for The Salvation Army in South America West has stated that the immediate response is to provide food, water, first aid kits, emergency blankets, candles, and other needed supplies. In addition to Lt. Colonel Bailey’s statement, man-power is also being provided by Salvationists in the region. A mobile canteen (a donation from the USA Southern Territory) is one of the key relief vehicles. It can produce thousands of meals per day.

The earthquake epicenter was approximately 90 miles north west of the city of Concepción in Southern Chile. Water, gas and electricity has been cut off in affected areas and will stay disconnected until relevant emergency crews can assess the damage and prioritise immediate needs.

Please pray for the people of Chile.

Don’t Be Scammed by Fake Donation Collectors!

Disasters Bring Out The Best In Us, And The Worst

“Every time there’s a disaster somewhere in the world, aid groups and the news media are careful to remind us of fundraising scams and other forms of exploitation. They’re right to mention it; in the emotion of the moment, we’re often so willing to help that we send our money to an organization we’ve never heard of in the hope of doing good.” (Courtesy Kathy Lovin at the Expect Change Blog.)
